Week 1 Blog

Hello everyone! Welcome to my very first blog ever! This blog is for my course in Information Security Management (CIS 608-T301) for the Fall 2013 semester. This blog will be about all of the cool things going on in the Information Security world and my own personal thoughts on those current issues. I will start by listing some basic information about myself. My name is Rashele and I am currently working on my Master's degree in Cybersecurity at Bellevue University. I work at the Oklahoma Supreme Court as a Information Security Administrator. I currently hold the following computer security certificates NSTISSI 4011 Information Systems Security Professional, CNSSI 4012 Senior Systems Manager, CNSSI 4014 Information Systems Security Officer, NSTISSI 4015 System Certifier, and CNSSI 4016 Risk Analyst. My hope is to obtain more certifications in the future.

I think I will start this blog by briefly talking about the Conficker worm. This worm really grabbed my attention because it was invading computers everywhere. The design behind the Conficker worm is brilliant. Conficker has its own encryption and very few can crack this worm's encryption methods. Also, this worm is practically undetectable when it invades your computer. You could have it and never even know. The creator of this worm has given it the ability to invade a vulnerable system and then repair the vulnerability so as to secure the system for its own bidding and to create a large botnet. Updating Windows is one of the best ways to prevent this worm from infecting your computer.
